Plucked from obscurity and now set to brave a massive media storm, an unassuming postal clerk from the small Scottish town of East Kilbride is now €52 million richer after winning last Friday’s EuroMillions jackpot.

Angela Kelly, a clerical assistant in the British Royal Mail, is now one of the country’s richest women, with her personal fortune far outstripping celebrity footballers and pop artists usually considered tabloid fodder.

Remarkably, Kelly is also the second Royal Mail employee to strike it rich with EuroMillions, as she joins previous winner Marion Richardson, who took home €24.5 million in April 2004. Like Richardson, Kelly’s first task after hitting the jackpot was handing in her resignation at the Royal Mail and she is now reportedly winging her way to Italy to carve out a new life as a multi-millionaire.
