A grandfather of three orphaned grandchildren has won $1m on the Oz Lotto!
A grandfather, who wishes to remain anonymous, plans to buy a house for his three orphaned grandchildren after his lucky Oz Lotto numbers won the $1 million in the Oz Lotto draw recently.
Speaking to Tatts lottery officials, the lucky grandad from Victoria said, "I’m flabbergasted, just flabbergasted. It’s great news," the grandfather said.
"Unbelievable, this is the best call I’ve ever received. I never thought I would get this call.
"I’m the grandfather of three orphans. I really need this money for them as we need to move into a bigger home."
Before the lucky Oz Lotto win, he said that he had been looking for a bigger house in "quieter suburb close by" but all the homes were out of his budget.
"I don’t know why I kept looking at them but I couldn’t avoid dreaming of moving there," he said.
"We can move now and I can rest. I can rest knowing they will be looked after."
He was the only winner of Tatts Monday night draw. This means that he will not be sharing the $1 million division one prize with anyone else.
The man's System 8 marked entry – which includes multiple games – also won the division three prize 12 times and the division four prize 15 times, taking his total winnings to $1,005,591.10.
He told lottery officials that he had just dropped off the children at school, when a Tatts lottery official called him to inform him that he had won the life-changing Oz Lotto prize.
"I’ve been playing those numbers on that ticket since TattsLotto started," he told the official.
"I chose those numbers using the birth dates of my kids, one of who is my son who passed away.
"I’ve never given them up, even though I’ve only ever had small wins on that ticket."
He purchased his winning Oz Lotto ticket from Banyule Newsagency in Rosanna. The owner of the store, Jenny Zhu said she was ecstatic for the winner.
"We are so happy for our customer! We are just so excited," Zhu said.
"It’s the first division one winning entry we’ve sold since I took over eight years ago. We’ve had a couple of division two winning entries but now we’ve sold a big one."
As mentioned in our article €90m EuroJackpot This Friday, the odds of winning the Oz Lotto is significantly higher than that of the France Loto. According to Oz Lotto, the chances of someone picking every division one-winning number is an astonishing 45,379,620 to 1.
In other Australian lottery news, time is running out for an anonymous Victorian to claim $55 million they won in a Powerball draw three months ago.
The mystery Oz Powerball lottery winner bought the winning ticket from Scole Lotto & News in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick, but has not come forward to claim the jackpot.
The $55 million Powerball win is the largest unclaimed prize in Australia's history. Elissa Lewis, a Tatts spokesperson is urging residents and travellers to check their Oz Powerball lottery tickets they purchased in the beginning of January this year.
"Imagine the possibilities ahead for the mystery winner with $55 million in their bank account. Imagine if that ticket is sitting in plain sight, going unchecked because the winner couldn’t fathom that it could possibly be them," said Lewis.
"Every day, we speak to Australian lottery winners whose winning dreams come true, so even if you don’t think it could be you, make sure you check your tickets either online, via the app or in store to be sure."
