Peter Congdon won almost £13.5 million on the National Lottery in May 2015 and went from flipping burgers to burning rubber thanks to his lucky lottery win. He recently revealed just how much his life has changed from working at McDonald’s to him now driving a fleet of luxury cars.
We often see commercials showing us how winning the lottery can change your life and Peter Congdon is definitely a good example of that.
Just like the latest £115 million EuroMillions winners, Frances and Patrick Connolly, Peter also celebrated his UK Lottery jackpot win with a “nice cup of tea” before going on a pre-booked holiday to Butlins.
At the time he was living in a council estate in Truro, Cornwall and told lottery officials, “I couldn't believe it then and I still can't really believe it now.”
“I used to go into shops and think it would be nice to have this and that, but now I can have what I want.”
Mr Congdon and his wife raised their three children on the estate. Unfortunately, his wife never got the opportunity to enjoy the family's wealth. One of the first things Mr Congdon did after winning the life-changing UK Lottery jackpot was buy a £1 million hydrotherapy pool for the Merlin MS Centre. It's this amazing centre that cared for his wife before her passing.
The lottery win also enabled Mr Congdon to pay off all three of his children’s mortgages.
Mr Congdon told the press, “I still own the house on Trelander and would go back in a shot - I loved living there. Camelot were great, offering us a financial adviser and which banks we should use. They also respond to the begging letters if we forward them.”
His love for cars
Once all the important things were paid for and invested, the lucky UK Lottery winner decided it was time to think about himself and buy the things he’s always dreamed of owning.
He bought himself a BMW i8, an electric BMW i3, a Porsche Cayman, a Bentley, and the last three Land Rover Defenders made.
Due to the fact that he has such an extensive range of vehicles, Mr Congdon loans out his fleet of flashy cars for school proms and only asks for a donation to the MS Centre in return.
Since winning the lottery Mr Congdon said he and his family still get requests begging for money. His daughter, Helen Venton, 48, said: 'We had funny letters from the beginning - including one man who wanted a coffin for his own funeral.
The giant cheque, with the full amount of £13,538,113 takes pride of place at Mr Congdon's home, next to the winning balls in lottery champagne glasses.
