A Melbourne Oz Lotto player recently found himself “speechless” after realising that he had won, not once but twice.
The lucky Australian winner mistakenly purchased an additional Oz Lotto ticket with the exact same numbers for the March 26 draw. However, it’s a mistake he’s more than happy with as those exact numbers came up resulting in a double win.
Accidentally bumped up his share of the Oz Lotto jackpot win
Looking at the Oz Lotto results one will immediately see that there were three winning tickets for the March 26 Oz Lotto draw which boasted a jackpot worth $70 million.
With this being the highest Oz Lotto jackpot for the year, lottery enthusiasts were all making sure that they purchased lottery tickets.
Bronwyn Spence, the Oz Lotto spokeswoman said that the St Albans winner ended up having two tickets for the same draw. He had apparently purchased the second ticket from a different store for what he thought was for a different draw.
With the Oz Lotto jackpot being $70 million, had his ticket been for the draw he thought he was buying for, he would not have bumped up his share of the Oz Lotto jackpot. Instead, he would have won $35 million. However, as the jackpot was now split in three the winner won $46.66 million.
The Lucky Oz Lotto Numbers
According to the lucky winner, he had been playing the same set of Oz Lotto numbers every week for the past 30 years. Speaking to lottery officials the shocked winner said: “I have never chosen the numbers on anything in particular. They weren’t special before, but they are now.”
Oz Lotto spokeswoman Bronwyn Spence said: “When we reached out to the division one winner from Melbourne to let him know he’d won this massive prize he was completely oblivious to the fact he’d won not once, but twice.
“Quite remarkably, the Melbourne man didn’t realise he’d bought two entries, he thought he’d bought an entry for a different lottery draw. But because he marks his entries, he marked them with the same numbers that came out of the barrel tonight which meant he won division one twice.”
The winning Oz Lotto numbers were 09-12-18-24-25-28-29.
He already knew of his $23.33m windfall but was shocked when told that it was actually $46.66m. “You’re kidding!” was his response and added that he was speechless and couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
He has opted to keep his identity private but Oz Lotto spokesman Matt Hart did, however, describe the lucky player as “a hard-working man that’s worked very much for all of his life.”
Plans for the Oz Lotto jackpot prize
He told lottery officials that he would be sharing his Oz Lotto prize with his family. He also said that although he hasn’t quit his job, he is considering retiring early. For now, he would like to buy a new home and a brand new car.
The other winning ticket that shared the top Oz Lotto jackpot prize has yet to come forward to claim their share of the jackpot prize. They will receive $23.3 million.
