The UK National Lottery Christmas Lotto Draw Offers A Chance To Win £15 Million

Camelot, the UK National Lottery organisers, have arranged an extra special Christmas on Wednesday the 25th of December by announcing a festive lottery jackpot prize of £15 million.

The UK National Lottery often offer something special for lucky lottery players over the Christmas holiday period and this year, they have included this generous prize as part of their 25th-year birthday celebrations.

The format will be a ‘Must Be Won’ prize draw on Christmas Day which means the prize money will be jacked up to £15 million no matter what the prize value was in the previous draw and it will need to be won by the end of play that day.

UK Lottery Christmas draw 2019

The ‘Must Be Won’ jackpot draws usually only happen after the fifth continuing rollover where the rules say that the jackpot money has to be handed to a winner.

These ‘Must Be Won’ draws are also used to celebrate certain special moments and milestones such as the ‘Birthday Jackpot’ that took place on the 23rd of November this year where the jackpot prize was worth £25 million.

If there is no winner whose tickets match all six main numbers within this special draw, a roll down happens where the prize money is shared between the next tiers down and so on. For example, if you match three numbers, the prize goes up from the standard £30 pay-out to around £100 or thereabouts and the other prizes go up in a similar way.

Roll down prizes will only be announced once the draw has taken place and the number of winners in each tier and tickets sold has been accounted for.

In previous Christmas draws, not many have occurred on a Wednesday or a Saturday. 2019 is the first year since 2013 that Christmas Day has occurred on either a Wednesday or Saturday and in the past, the UK National Lottery has always organised many a special lottery event over the Christmas holiday season.

Last years’ ‘Must Be Won’ jackpot draw with a £15 million cash prize happened on Saturday the 22nd of December where two ticket holders managed to match up all the winning numbers. They split the jackpot prize between them with a nice Christmas present of £7.5 million each so no roll down occurred. Over one and a half million other players also picked up various prizes.

The UK National Lottery dished out more prizes than normal in 2016 and 2017 with their ‘Lotto Raffle’ that was played alongside the usual Lotto game. The Lotto Raffle offered prizes of £20,000 or £1 million to punters who matched up an auto-generated raffle number on their actual Lotto ticket.

The Christmas holiday time seems to be quite a lucky time for big lottery wins.

Further to last year where the two winners split the jackpot prize between them, on the 27th of December 2017, a taxi driver won a fabulous £24 million lottery jackpot.

On New Year’s Eve 2016, another jackpot winner won a huge £26 million cash prize and the previous year to that in 2015, the winning numbers 26, 27, 46, 47, 52 and 58 with a bonus number of 48, generated a massive £66 million record prize that was shared between two people. All the winners had a very happy Christmas!
