"I'm retiring!" Says $24M Lottery Jackpot Winner

The first words uttered by the latest $24 million lottery jackpot winner were “I'm retiring!”

Those magic words, “I’m retiring” are the words we’d all like to be able to say because then we know that we no longer have to work to be able to pay our bills ever again. Winning a lottery jackpot will change your life so much for the better. Dreams do come true, just ask Ronald Cumiskey.

Finding out you have a massive win right before bedtime is a dream come true

On Wednesday the 27th of May 2020, 60-year-old Canadian Ronald 'Ron' Cumiskey almost forgot to check his Lotto 6/49 ticket just before bed. Instead, that life-changing decision to check his numbers at the last moment probably kept him up most of the night as he had just learned his lotto ticket was the jackpot winning ticket worth an enormous $24,369,459 (US$18 million).

He’d faithfully played the lottery for over 30 years and at long last, jackpot! Ron double-checked the date and quadruple-checked his numbers and he finally realised it was true, he’d won. “I checked it two, three, four times before it finally sank in.” Ron said, “It's the dream you never think is going to come true.”

The first people Cumiskey told about his win were his girlfriend and also his roommate and then he called his boss of 20 years to tell him an important message: “Frank, I'm retiring! You know that winner in Aldergrove? That's me!”

Ron plans to use part of his newly acquired wealth to visit Pearl Harbour in Hawaii and also the East Coast of Canada sometime in the future. Even more importantly, he says he wants to “prioritise his loved ones and close friends first.” He said, “I want to spend it helping the people that are close to me and have been there for me through my life.”

Ron’s other plans are to buy a lakeside home, a new car, help his family financially and to top it all, play quite a few rounds of golf now he’s retired from work. Even though he’s won this fantastic jackpot prize and has more than enough money to last him his life, he still plans to keep playing the lottery.

Ron’s winning numbers for the 27th of May 2020 Lotto 6/49 draw game are 7, 17, 18, 22, 28 and 34 with the bonus number being 1. Ron Cumiskey beat the 1 in 13,983,816 odds and became the sole $24 million lottery jackpot prize winner by matching all the main six draw numbers that he’d chosen randomly. He put his claim in through the British Columbia Lottery Corporation's ‘alternate prize claim process’ as the prize payout offices were temporarily closed to the public.

Ron’s jackpot win marks him down as the third British Columbia resident to win the Lotto 6/49 jackpot in 2020. Other BC winners were Saeid Ebrahimi from Burnaby who won $5 million in March 2020 and Tibor Tusnady from White Rock who won $16 million in April 2020.

More proof that we all do have a chance to win a lottery jackpot. There are many winners out there living a life they never thought they could.

Never give up and don’t forget that you have to be in it to win it.
