Flying Home To Fortune With The UK Lottery

David and Carol Martin, who hold the title as Britain’s biggest ever Lotto winners, are definitely enjoying the new found wealth and have spent some of it on a first class plane ticket to fly their 26-year-old daughter, Lisa back to the UK from Australia.

The lucky UK Lottery winners realised that they had won their share of the uk lotto jackpot while casually eating a bacon and black pudding roll once Sunday morning. Not only did they actually win the UK Lotto jackpot – but this particular jackpot had the whole world’s attention due to the fact that it was the biggest ever UK Lottery jackpot – a whopping £66million!

What’s the first thing parents would do? Call their children and let them know the fantastic news of course!

Well, this is exactly what the newly found lotto millionaires did. They immediately called their daughter, Lisa Martin, who lives in Melbourne, Australia to share the amazing news with.

But, let’s face it. Money isn’t everything if you can’t share it with the one’s you love…

This is why, the good news is that Lisa is on her way back to Britain right now – travelling first class naturally. Ah the joys of being rich!

If there was ever a child you deserved the best from their parents, it’s Lisa:

Lisa’s an account manager at a recruitment firm and moved to Australia in 2011 from the family home in Hawick, Scottish Borders. Before her big move Lisa worked as a Customer Services Advisor at Scottish Borders Council.

Looking at her LinkedIn profile, Lisa also spent five years as a Brownie leader before she left for down under where she volunteered for the Wesley Mission - an Australian social services charity - and has helped care for elderly people for the last 18 months.

After not seeing their daughter for more than a year, the Martins are over the moon with excitement that Lisa will be coming home.

Mrs Martin said: 'Lisa loves it out in Australia and has been trying to gain residency over there.

'She’s been in Australia for more than five years and we last saw her at Christmas 2014. We can’t wait to see her again. With all this going on, it doesn’t seem right not to be together.'

The day the found out they had won the Lotto

Getting back to the day the Martin’s realised they had won their share of the biggest UK Lottery jackpot, David and Carol said that they at first just stared at each other in disbelief after retrieving their winning lottery ticket that they bought from Morrisons, which they had left on their mantelpiece overnight.

Mrs Martin said: 'We just kept looking at each other and going "No, it canna be".'

After that it was one cuppa tea after the other before calling Lisa to tell her.

'We caught Lisa on the telephone as she was driving to work and told her to pull over.

'She thought something bad had happened as we normally only Skype or WhatsApp her to keep the costs down. So, when we telephoned she was really worried.

'Then we told her we’ve just won 68 million in Australian dollars. She couldn’t believe it and thought we were pulling her leg.'

The couple eventually called in sick at work. Never being sick before, Carol’s workmates got excited for her and guessed that ‘something was up.’

The funny thing is, that they were totally unprepared for a celebration of this magnitude. Friends arrived at their house when they were told about the huge lotto win with a bottle of bubbly and they the Martins realised that they did not even have the correct glasses to drink the champagne in. Laughing they dashed out to their local supermarket and quickly bought a set of champagne flutes for £5.

The have now told Sky News: 'We’ll have to get a crystal set.'

Even their neighbour won on the UK Lotto

Just over a decade ago, the Martins neighbour also had a similar experience with the Lotto.  The handy-man and his wife next door won their share of a £500,000 lottery windfall playing in a syndicate, but by the time the cash was shared out, Mr Nichol ended up with just £9,400 in comparison to the Martin’s massive UK Lottery win.

Brian Nichol said: 'Funnily enough, there's now two lottery winners on this street.

'I won about half a million as part of a syndicate of 49 people. It ended up being about nine grand in the end though. So David and Carol's win is just a little bit bigger than mine.

'I spent the money on a three-week holiday in Florida.'

He said the couple were 'lovely people' who deserved to win - but said they lived so quietly that he hadn't even heard a peep of celebration from their home. (not even when they dashed out laughing?)

Mr Nichol added: 'We've been neighbours for 16 years and they've always been really lovely neighbours, you couldn't get better neighbours if you tried.

'I found out when my daughter texted and then phoned me to say it was them, I was chuffed to bits for them.

'You'd have never known though, I've not heard any screaming from their house. They're pretty quiet people and don't go out too much, but David is a keen golfer down at the course.

'He'll be able to buy the Roxburghe Golf Club now. It's a bit of good news for the town after 120 jobs went last week at the knitwear factory and all the flooding there's been in the town.

'I'm very happy for their good fortune.'

Plans for the huge Lotto win

Mr Martin said other than helping flood victims battered by recent storms, he would like to to go to a number of live sporting events, like Wimbledon and the Masters golf tournament.

Billy Hush, vice-chairman of the local golf club said: 'Honestly the money couldn’t have been won by a nicer bloke. You couldn’t find a nicer guy more deserving of it.'

Mr Martin also revealed the he wanted to do was 'buy myself a nice pair of £200 brogues', a Range Rover and an automatic for Carol.

We certainly wish the Martins all the best with the incredible UK Lottery win and seeing Lisa again.
