As the end of the year is nearly with us and Christmas is almost on our doorstep, there are many lottery winners around the world doing their bit for less fortunate people. One such story is from Scotland where the members of a lottery syndicate were saying how much of a difference even a small gesture can make to a person’s Christmas.
They are a group of six retired friends who won £1 million on the lottery in August and are known as the ‘ScottieHibbies’ (named after their favourite Scottish football team, Hibernian).
They felt they should share some of their good fortune with others and took some early Christmas presents to the ‘Royal Hospital for Sick Children’ in Edinburgh.
They arrived at the hospital this week with a sack full of presents that included DVD players with a load of films to help the kids pass the time with their families and give them a fun distraction.
The ‘Sick Kids Friends Foundation’ thanked the syndicate for their wonderful and ‘thoughtful donation’ and said it would help make the kid’s Christmas ‘magical’. The lotto winners insisted it was the very least they could do.
Douglas Gibson, the 72 year old syndicate leader said in the Daily Record: “The work that the ‘Royal Hospital for Sick Children’ does, supported by the ‘Sick Kids Friends Foundation’, is truly amazing. We’ve been blessed with a real change in our luck this year and we all decided we wanted to do something to support these guys as they fight their conditions.”
Doug added: “After spending time in the hospital today it really hit home how much we need to support charities like this and how much of a difference even the smallest gesture can make. We hope the kids enjoy using the DVD players and movies and that they can make a small difference to the time they spend in the hospital.”
Doug and the rest of the syndicate won their £1 million prize on the 27th of August in a special lotto draw where additional prizes were given out in celebration of the amazing amount of medals Team GB won at the Rio Olympics.
Support money from the National Lottery players went a fair way towards the success of Great Britain’s Olympians as well as the Paralympians this summer. Further lottery ticket sales continue to go to various good causes such as many different charities, the environment, education, health, heritage, the arts and of course, sports.
Those entering the next UK Lottery draw on Saturday will be helping to further contribute to these good causes and of course, will have a chance of winning the huge £10.3 million lottery jackpot that is up for grabs.
All you need to do is play the UK Lottery online and you too could make the world of difference.
You know how the saying goes, ‘give and you will receive’, so let’s hope we all have happy holidays over the next few weeks. Someone is going to be very rich, we hope it’s you.
Best of luck!
